In order to prepare students for the new academic year 2021/2022, a summer school program was held from Monday 6 till Friday 17 September 2021. The program was for all classes from KG1 till Grade 12. So much was lost the last two years because of COVID19. The teachers and trainers needed to make sure students had the basic elements of programs of the previous year to make sure they can manage the lessons of the coming year. A full school program was held in all subject from 7:45 AM till 2:30 PM for both boarding and day students of both the academic and vocational schools. The program was completely free to all students. Transportation for boarding students was also organized free of charge with a bus trip from Manara - Zahle, Saadnayel, Taalabaya, Chtoura, Mixe, Qab Elias, and finally Schneller School. All boarding students were collected along this route on Monday and taken back on Fridays. Arranging free transportation was absolutely necessary as it was impossible for parents or relatives of students to bring them to JLSS with the petrol shortage in Lebanon and the resulting ridiculously high prices for transportation. All precautions were taken to protect children and staff from COVID19. The second and forth periods of each day were extended for 10 minutes to allow teachers to take students at the beginning of class for a ten minute walk outside for fresh air. This also allowed adequate ventilation of all classrooms after the first and third periods. Masks and social distancing were required. Regular sterilization of classrooms was conducted, and the two week period passed safely with no one getting sick. Grade 9 students will start the new academic year on 27 September and all other classes on 4 October.
